Tinsky Pipes

Crafting with Care

The American Smoking Pipe Co. was formed in 1978 by Mark Tinsky and the artisan shop continues through his son Glenn. All Tinsky pipes are unique as they are made and finished by hand, producing beautiful, well-made pieces of art that produce a taste beyond reproach.

The Tinsky brand draws on heritage, family, and old-world craft.

Pipe-making is an old craft that is carefully done by hand. From selecting the right piece of briar, designing the form of the finished piece, to turning the bowl on a lathe and sanding away the rest. A lot goes into creating a single pipe, including the effort and passion of the craftsman themselves. Now a family business, the Tinsky name means quality and is a staple in the pipe-smoking community.

Small but mighty.

Timber was asked to create a brand identity that would easily translate to engraving on very small pieces of wood. The thinnest part of the pipe ( the shank) is often where the branded information resides. The logo needed to not only be readable at less than an inch wide, but accommodate for the burnished edges of the engraving tool.

Timber was extremely professional and competent and I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for branding services.”

Two heads are better than one.

Because of the requirements needed, Tinsky and Timber decided to use the initial mark solely for the purposes of engraving. A special logo that only resides as a makers mark on each pipe created.

Using this as a starting point for a more intricate logo, Timber focused on creating a mark that resonated with the personality and essence of the Tinsky brand. Reminiscent of carved wooden shop signs, proudly displaying the founding year and paying homage to the original “Tinsky star”, the final mark was complete.

It’s all natural.

Timber focused on the natural elements used in pipe-making to develop a cozy, craftsman-forward color palette. Briar wood brown, wood shavings yellow, and ebonite black all lend themselves to creating a fully nuanced brand experience that reflects the tobacco pipe culture.

The presentation of work went beyond my expectations.”
